Family Camping Tips To Make The Day Fun For Everyone

By Samantha L

One of the best ways to get in touch with nature is to go camping. This is even more important in these modern times where everyone spends a significant amount of their time staring at a screen, whether that be a computer, laptop, smart phone or tablet. Humans have truly lost touch with mother earth and this is quite alarming since it is essential for good health and overall well being. So, this article will look at a few family camping tips that are sure to make everyone in the family enjoy their time away from technology and modern life, at least for the day.

Failing to prepare will definitely cause a failed trip and a checklist may come in handy to make sure everything is available. This includes sufficient food, water and snacks as well as a first aid kit, bedding, flashlights, coals, lighting fluid, matches, toys, family games, towels etc. Of course, every family is different and the needs will differ accordingly. For example, if there are lots of young children, be sure to pack all the items they need on a day to day basis as well as extras in case some get lost or soiled. Lots of games and toys should also be packed in case anyone gets bored.

Another tip is to plan out specific activities that will be done throughout the camping trip. This is important since without a schedule, boredom will occur. This may include fishing, hunting and even teaching survival skills. Survival skills include making a fire, creating a tent out of natural materials, constructing a natural toilet, learning how to fish without a fishing rod and hook, catching crabs etc. Most kids and teenagers will initially object to such activities, however, they will love them and it will help them to learn critical life skills.

Thirdly, be sure to pack sufficient insect repellent since mosquitoes and bugs can quickly make everyone miserable. Remember, the wild is much different than a comfortable home, so be sure to be well prepared. Of course, this also means being prepared to deal with wild animals such as snakes, boars, bears, rats, squirrels, raccoons etc. Before choosing a camping spot, be sure to do sufficient research on the area so that all natural threats are known. After all, it would not be a good idea to take a young family to an area that has lots of wolves and other predators.

Lastly, be sure to have a plan in case anything goes wrong. This means knowing the fastest route to the nearest hospital as well as having a first aid kit. If possible, be sure to take a first aid course and know how to administer CPR, tie a sling, dress a wound etc.

These family camping tips will certainly help just about any family be prepared for a camping trip and ensure that everyone has a good time. The first trip may be challenging, however, over time it will become one of the most enjoyable family activities that everyone will look forward to.
